Bringing Local Stories to Global Audiences: Master's Student Viviane Gao Completes Overseas Program in Italy
Viviane Gao, a second-year master's student at the NCCU College of Communication, received a NT$420,000 grant through the Ministry of Education's Youth Overseas Dream Program. This summer, she traveled to Milan, Italy, where she gained firsthand experience with cultural and creative organizations and explored how local stories can connect with international audiences through visual storytelling and curatorial communication.
Drawing on her longstanding engagement with film and television education and visual curation, Gao used the overseas experience to further explore the role of innovative curation in bringing Taiwanese artists and stories to broader audiences. The experience also deepened her understanding of cultural communication in an international context.
As part of her plans following the program, Gao hopes to share her experiences, cultural observations, and reflections from Italy with students and young people in Taiwan. Through these efforts, she aims to turn her overseas experience into opportunities for broader exchange while continuing to explore the social responsibility of communication professionals.
